Moss Heights: physical comfort, spiritual cost
The post-war dream of your own home with central heating and hot water lost something essential in the process, and the result is an urban environment that has lost its humanity
In the summer of 2024 I consciously went around many poorer parts of Britain to do “walking tours” and capture them as-is. My “ghost court” litigation saga interrupted me processing and publishing the results. A lull in my legal work has given me an evening off to make some progress, at long last. So this next instalment is from Moss Heights, one of the earliest and oldest high-rise developments in Britain, located in the west of Glasgow. Its intake was intended to be from the Victorian slums being cleared, but nice views combined with high rents meant it was out of reach of many.
I will let the images speak for themselves.

I hope you enjoyed our virtual ethnographic tour in Scotland.
Was this really the best we could do?
Probably not.
Let’s do better.
