I recently posted up my speaker notes for a talk at a small private festival. This is the audio of the talk — the quality is OKish, even if I do mumble occasionally or endure some wind noise on stage. Joining a panel after with a neuroscientist was interesting, since the essential contrast was between my message (a natural order puts moral limits on what we should do) and his cosmology (if I can imagine the mechanism is possible, then why not build it). So he can conceive of an “artificial conscience”, and I assert that no such thing exists.

Festival talk on technology, conscience, divinity
You breezed through this with your normal eloquence Martin. I’ve loved watching your journey of discovery over the last many years because it mirrors the journey many of us are on. You are the scientist that describes the situations we have bumbled through so we can reflect. God bless you dear soul!
Great! It’s nice to hear your voice and emotion — thanks for sharing this here.
“It” stripped out divinity, it stripped out you Martin. AI, Algorithmic Imitation, has an unnaturally programmed conscience, if it can be said to have a conscience at all.
