I have found a spot rather similar to Jaywick in the U.S. and located here after spending most of my adulthood in the mega cities. In fact, while not quite as mossy, my car looks rather like the one you pictured. I am also in a depressed coastal area, with lots of rain--about 100" a year on average. I really enjoyed your essay, and the comparison to Barbados (a place I've never been but also have read about) to be quite apt.
